Okay, any of you reading this probably know who I am. On the Internet, I’m known as Falar, sometimes with the last name Ransted, but not a whole lot these days. I’m also known in real life as Jesse Ray Hovemeyer, but that’s going to change in a bit.

This is my new journaling (well, I suppose I should use the dreaded b-word instead) home. Seeing as I haven’t done a lot of journaling back at Livejournal recently, you’re probably wondering what will appear here. And that’s a good thing to wonder and a great reason for me to toss down some random tangents that I might fly off on. Could very well fly off on. Hey, it’s kind’ve like tags for the turf, if you will.

Work

I currently work at a place called Elmore Academy that is owned by Youth Services International. It’s a juvenile correctional facility with a focus on retooling the thinking of juvenile deliquents so they won’t be those any more. It’s got a high success rate too. Somewhere around 5%. That’s exactly how effective these kinds of facilities are, but I’ll talk sometime more about why that is and why it’s not just the system’s fault like some TV shows would lead you to believe.

Elemental Creation 10,000

This is probably going to be the other big thing I’ll talk about here, as I don’t have much in the way of hobbies at the moment. Elemental Creation 10,000 (which is shortened to EC10k) is a world building project that I’m a member of. Basically, we’re taking the nine classic elements of a Final Fantasy world (okay, just choosing nine of them) and each element is played/created by one of the players. I happen to play the Element of Shadow, which has a theme of Pathos and a big conceptual focus on Deception, Power and Freedom. There will also probably be some rants from a non world building point of view about how silly drama happens.

Other Stuff

I’ll probably throw down some thoughts on books, movies, TV shows and life in general from time to time here. Also stuff about me. These things don’t bear theming really, but I can mention what I’ve been recently reading and watching.

For reading, I’ve been doing a lot of the Dean Koontz. I never thought I’d like anything that falls under Horror in the genres, but Koontz is some good stuff. He has characterization that I absolutely adore, as well as some awesome themes.

For watching, I’ve recently gotten ahold of the first season of Supernatural and am watching it. It’s pretty awesome. Other shows I might talk about are House, QI, Brimstone, the Dresden Files and Heroes. As you can tell, a large section of what I like is the mysterious and weird. And then I have just plain awesome stuff like House and QI.

So … that’s the beginning of your guide to the turf. Stay tuned, I’ll try to keep blogging. (OMG THE DREADED B-WORD)
